Navigation Menu

A navigation menu is a list of links pointing to important areas of a website. They are usually presented as a horizontal bar of links at the top of every page on a website. Navigation menus give your site a structure and help visitors find what they are looking for. Therefore, having a good, well-designed, well-structured navigation menu increases the conversion rate of your store.

Through this feature, you will be able to customize the content of the menu for both Desktop and Mobile Stores. To know more on how you can add a menu to your store and customize its content, follow the below-mentioned steps

How to add a Navigation menu through the CommerceUp platform?

  1. From the platform backend, go to Online Store -> Navigation Menus

Through this Navigation Menu window, you can create or customize menu content for desktop and mobile stores either separately or copy menu items from desktop to mobile store or vice-versa.

2. For the sake of simplicity, we will start by creating menu items for the desktop store. Now, to add a menu item click on the Add Menu Item button.

3. From the "Create Menu Item" pop-up window, select the Type of the menu item from the dropdown. And write the Title of menu item.

For your reference, all the menu items are explained below.

a ) Blank- Choose the type as "Blank" when there is no action associated with the navigation menu as it will not be linked to any other page or product. b) Single Category- If you wish that a user navigates to a particular category when clicking on the menu item, you may select the type as "Single Category". Once you select it, you can search the category to which you want the menu item to be linked, so when a customer clicks on it, he will be directed to the PLP of that category products.

c) Brand- If you want that a user navigates on a particular Brand page, select the type as "Brand". You can then search for the brand you wish to link your menu item with, in the search box right below.

d) Open All Product- If you want the user to navigate to PLP of your catalog and show all the products you have, then select type as "Open All Product".

e) Single Collection- If you wish that a user navigates to a particular collection when clicking on the menu item, you may select the type as "Single Collection". Once you select it, you can search the collection to which you want the menu item to be linked, so when a customer clicks on it, he will be directed to the PLP of that collection products.

f) Web Link- If you wish to navigate your customer to some External link or a particular URL then select the menu type as "Web Link", and paste the link in the box below. Once saved and published, your customer will be able to visit the URL linked to the menu item.

g) Custom Page- If you wish to put up a static page link ( like Cancellation Policy, Return Policy, Shipping Policy, etc.) on the navigation menu, then select type as "Custom Page" and from the drop-down below select the custom static page to be displayed as a menu item and click on the Save button.

h) Custom Filter- If you want to open the products of the selected category or brands through the filter, select the type as "Custom Filter". Here you can show the products of multiple categories, multiple brands, and so on.

i) Pre-defined Pages- If you wish to direct your customer to pages like My Account, My Orders, My wishlist, Cart, etc. from the navigation menu, then select the type as "Pre-defined Pages" and select the page from the dropdown menu.

j) Open Blog Category- If you have multiple categories of your blogs and wish to navigate your customer to a particular blog category, select the type as "Open Blog Category", it will direct your customer to that blog category which will have all the blogs listed that you created under the same category.

k) Open Brand List- If you wish to direct your customer to the page where all the brands that you have are listed, then select the type as "Open Brand List".

l) Open Brands by Tag- If you want to navigate your customers to a brand list of the products which are linked to a specific tag (for instance- "Fashion", then every brand which is linked to the "Fashion" tag will be listed in the page), then select type as "Open Brands by Tag".

4. Once you have filled in all the necessary details, click on the Save button. Your added menu item will be listed on the Navigation menu screen.

Note - Once you have added the menu items for the desktop store, you can use the same items for mobile also by toggling to Mobile tab and then clicking on the "Copy Desktop Item" button.

How to Add a Sub-Menu item for the already existing menu items?

Once you have added menu items for the navigation menu, it will be reflected on store' Navigation Bar. Now if you wish to add submenu and create a menu hierarchy (refer to the image below), then follow the steps down below

  1. First select the menu item to which you want to add a submenu.(Notice that once you select the item, it will turn blue)

2. Now with your menu item selected, click on the Add Menu Item button and follow the same steps as we did above.

3.Once you have added a submenu by following the steps we did while adding a menu item, you can check the submenu item by clicking on the arrow associated with the menu item, this will result into a dropdown where your newly added submenu will be listed.

In the same way, you can add menu items for your submenu items also, by following the steps we did earlier.
